What is Small Business Saturday?

Small business Saturday is annual event founded in 2010 (by American Express, lol, thanks AMEX). The day/campaign was created to encourage consumers to shop at locally owned business during the holiday season. We can get behind the purpose of that!

This Small Business Saturday falls on Saturday November 30th 2024. We will be open at Monsoon Market from 11am-7pm and obviously throwing down with wine and n/a sampling, gift shopping plus gift wrapping to get you holiday ready!

Why is “shopping small” important?

Shopping small is key for consumers to reinvest money back into their communities. When you shop local, for every dollar spent, .67 cents stays in the community. Our Phoenix community! By buying local you are not only making an investment in Phoenix, you’re legit helping local business owners buy their groceries. As community resource Local First AZ nicely puts it, when you choose to support a local small business over a large corporate giant, you help preserve the authentic character of our neighborhoods and celebrate the diverse and inclusive culture of Arizona.

Events

Leading up to this Saturday (and after!) there are a whole bunch of fun events happening. Obviously we at Monsoon Market love to be a resource for you, a concierge of Phoenix, if you will. One of our favorite things to do is put you on to locally owned spots, restaurants, shops, etc. Let us be your guide.

Kicking off the weekend is Thanksgiving on Thursday Nov. 28th (also, our diva Marina’s birthday – shoutout!). We are OPEN on Thanksgiving day from 11am-5pm for all your last minute needs.

Following is the infamous “Black Friday”, which tends to be a bigger shopping day for corporate businesses. We encourage shopping small ALL the time, Friday November 29th being no exception. Monsoon Market will have some killer wine deals too, so plan to come stock up on Friday if that works best for you to support!

Small business Saturday, Nov. 30th, will be such a fun day in Phoenix! Again, great deals at Monsoon Market, natural wine, gifts, n/a’s for the parties, all the best curation of products from indie producers that you can’t find other places in Phoenix!

Beyond Monsoon Market, Phoenix offers a whole bunch of other ways to support small business Saturday and small businesses. One of our recs outside of our shop is Sidewalk Saturday 10am-2pm. Founded in 2020, Sidewalk Saturday partners with local businesses and community partners to activate the sidewalks with over 30 artisans from across the valley. Vendors are located in the heart of Downtown Phoenix’s Roosevelt Row Arts District on North side Roosevelt Street from 3rd street to Central. Super dope, you should check it out!

To really kick off the season on December 1st, we are throwing a not-to-be-missed Holiday Party at Valley Bar! Sunday Dec. 1st, 6–10pm, 21+ // FREE EVENT‼️
